My approach to learning to read around the house is actually quite a bit different from what Aidan is getting at school, but it doesn't seem to be confusing him. He has been working with Headsprout reading program for about 1 year and is progressing at his own pace. He chooses to do an online lesson about once per week and works with his readers and flashcards in between.
I have a set of high frequency word books and I brought those out today to see how he did with them. As you can hear below he did very well and wanted to move on to more of the set, but I told him that we would go slowly to make sure he was really learning the words well.
In addition to being very proud of his ability to read these books, he went into his room and brought out some sentences for me to read.
