Logan had his follow up visit with the pediatrician today after his bout with the stomach flu, weight loss, and possible food issues. He has been so content lately I was really expecting good news.
Or not. In the 3 weeks since he lost all that weight (a pound), he has only gained 2 ounces.
The official plan is to do a food & stools diary for 2 months, being sure to include gluten in that time period. Then we go back the beginning of April for a weight check and to look at the diary and see what we see. They want to wait until his 1 year check up to do blood work unless he gets worse (gets sick again, loses more weight, etc).
False negatives are very common in children under 5 so it is very important that I continue feeding him gluten in the meantime so that if it is Celiac Disease it will show up on the antibody test and we won't spend a bunch of time and money looking for other things. In addition to being against my instinct to protect him from this potentially dangerous food, it isn't that easy to make sure that someone in this house is eating gluten without contaminating the person's food that we know can't have it!
I guess I can't do much about those middle of the night (constant) nursing sessions just now either.
