I posted earlier this month on a few of our early name writing activities and my thoughts on when children can and should learn to write their names.  If you didn’t have a chance to read that post, be sure to click over and see a few of the ideas available there.  Inspired by a writing activity I found on Pinterest, I had Kylee use our chalkboard for some additional writing practice this week and she really liked it.  I wrote a shape, line, or word in chalk and then she used a paint brush dipped in water to trace over the lines.  We started with basic writing strokes and then switched to writing letters.  After she water erased her name several times, she really wanted to write other words too so we practiced lots of other family names.

Kylee is doing really well with all of the name writing work and practice she is doing.  I suspect one day soon she will pick up a pencil, crayon, or maker and spontaneously write her name on paper.
The teacher in me has to repeatedly tell the mom in me to be patient and not rush her!
I love this point when my littles one are just on the cusp of mastering something new.
