18 Months of Work Well Worth It.

Welcome to our attic.

This is what it looked like in Spring of 2014.

Untitled

The window was half stain glass and half boarded over because it was broken.

Untitled

So that was the first thing we changed.

Untitled

Then Tim started framing.

Untitled

And framing.

And framing some more.

Even the dog was sick of framing.

Untitled

After framing, our electrician came and roughed everything in.

Then we had a long, what we will call, the *Siena* pause.

Tim and Aidan did the insulation this spring and then Tim started drywall.

Untitled

Then I voted that we hire someone to do the drywall.

When drywall was finished we had plenty of volunteers to help with painting.

Untitled

And since we hadn't done the flooring and had no trim we didn't even have to worry about the mess.

Untitled

Although girls in tutus were not allowed to paint, they did occasionally sneak in.

Untitled

After painting Tim laid the subfloor.

Untitled

While Aidan rocked out the vinyl plank flooring.

Seriously.  He was awesome.

Untitled

We had another brief pause (only a week or two) while we waited for the electrician to come back to finish his end of the deal.

Untitled

Untitled

Then it was time for trim.

Untitled

Untitled

And let's pause for a minute and remember what this looked like in the beginning.

Untitled

As of Friday afternoon.

Untitled

First thing at the top of the stairs is this beautiful reading bench.

Untitled

Along the wall you can't see (to the left above the pillows) is Jhangsoo.

He's the black belt instructor in the stories that go with our taekwondo program for preschoolers.  He's on the wall to remind all the boys that we expect them to be black belt leaders, regardless of their age or rank.

Untitled

There's a lot more to being a leader than just what we learn in taekwondo though, and so next to Jhangsoo is a picture of the Korean Martrys with a prayer from their beatification in August of 2014 by Pope Francis.

It says (if you can't read it) "...obtain for us the grace of perseverance in faith and in every good work, holiness and purity of heart, and apostolic zeal in bearing witness to Jesus in this beloved country, throughout Asia, and to the ends of the Earth."

Untitled

Moving to the right of the stairs, clockwise around the room is Logan's corner.

The characters here are the Tiger ranks that Logan has reached.

Untitled

Continuing clockwise you will see Aidan's spot.

(Minus doors on his dresser because they are too heavy for me to do alone)

Untitled

My favorite detail in Aidan's area is this board.

Aidan broke it as part of our demo the spring before we left Utah and I had it signed by all of the members of demo team but we didn't have a place to put it until now.

Untitled

Continuing clockwise, Caleb's corner.

Untitled

Continuing on is the LEGO corner.

Seriously there is as much square footage for LEGOS in this room as there is for sleeping.

CHOA is in this corner, if you don't know why, see this post.

Untitled

We still have a couple little details to take care of.

The window is missing two edges of trim because our 9:00 run to Home Depot (half hour away) resulted in bad measuring by two highly educated adults.

That's all we will say about that.

There is also a door to the right of Aidan's bed into the unfinished/storage part of the attic.

Rather, right now there is a door frame and hopefully soon we will find time to install the door.

Also the stairwell needs help.

Creative picture taking.

I could have kept that our little secret,
but I would rather acknowledge pictures only tell part of the story.

The pictures don't tell you that the last two days we arranged for kids to be at Grandmas' houses, Tim was working 2 hours away and leaving at 4:00 in the morning.

Then getting home in time to work with me for several hours before collapsing late.

The pictures don't tell you how many times I hauled my pregnant little self up that, now third in my house, flight of steps with knick knacks and things the boys HAD to have in their new room.

Or how much garbage I cleaned out of their old room.

It was gross.

Instead of showing you that, I'll just leave you with this beautiful view again.

Untitled

Now, if you don't mind I will be sleeping for the next week or two.
